Transitioning to Winter

By date it might not be winter, but with the leaves off the trees and the chill in the air, it might as well be! The house garden has a few things like onions, but the plants I care about are now in the greenhouse. We have turned the heater on a few nights, but next week it will be more often. My orchard garden still has peas and sunflowers. They might make it one more week.

The sheep and goats have all been moved to pastures closer to the house where it is easier to provide water. I have seven more goats to shear. The one on the stand is Toggles, Cutie Pi’s mother. It is no fun shearing a doe with udders. Took way longer than usual, since she squirmed so much. I was relieved that no one got nicked in the process!

I have three does who are pregnant. One has the beginnings of udders and the other two might have twins based on their current size and the fact that they have no udders. I will be taking the buck away from the does in mid December when Solo and Ebony, this year’s kid bucks, will be old enough to leave their mothers. I did not want to move the buck to a pasture by himself.

I figured that I will not be spinning outside again this year. (Had to include that gorgeous rooster.) I have moved my wheels to the house and I am now designing new patterns.

I am now moving a lot of my Facebook Live videos to Youtube. You can find my channel by searching for Kathy Withers or Withers Wool. The one with the photo of the mannequin in red, white and black is the one to look at. I have also been loading up my favorite animals videos. My FB live videos may still be found on Withers Wool under videos.
