Fall is a busy time on the farm. We have extensive vegetable gardens and our orchard is finally producing apples and persimmons. I planted lots of ornamental corn this year from seeds I collected last year and a batch of rainbow glass seeds that I bought. The table with the corn around the rooster (that a friend made for me) holds the cobs that were in great shape. The rest of the kernels are being stored in Mason jars to be turned into flour or used as popcorn. The onions are being turned into powder to be used in recipes.
Sheep and goats do not usually like the taste of onion, but they follow buckets. One of the young ewes actually ate some while her friend was looking on. She did not like the smell.
The Fiber Art Studio Tour is holding their annual Holiday event December 4-5. Participating farms are: Withers Wool, Dancing Leaf Farm, Flying Goat Farm and Avalon Springs Farm. We are planning to spotlight finished goods as gifts this year. I decided to gather up the hats and cowls that I have written patterns for knitters and crochet. They will go on my www.witherswool.etsy.com page for sale. I have run out of mannequin heads to display them all.
I am always looking for new color inspiration. The rocks shown here were from the stream feeding into my pond. These were after the third stage. If you come visit, you will get to see the final product.
The Maryland Alpaca Fleece and Fiber Festival is November 13-14. I will be i n my usual spot in the Dining Hall at the Howard County fairgrounds. Come check out my latest yarns and designs as well as all of the other vendors. This is a great place to come fondle fibers and see a lot of fiber art and craft in a easy to find location.
